Hieeee

I am feeling so thrilled to be writing again. I feel it's in my soul... To read-to write.. to share and to express my views, my vision towards life.

These years so many important events has happened in my life.

I got MARRIED! Yes, finally I did. 😂 Had my own struggles with it.. from convincing my parents to adjusting with new life, new roles and new responsibilities.

It's a task on it's own really to be married WOMAN! (I really don't know about men)

Looking forward to sharing my views ahead. Really looking forward to starting slow but to go ahead with it.

Let's see 😊

Do let me know in the comments below what had changed in your life in past 2 years?

It's a choice that one can make

There are so many things and decision in life that are so implicitly present that we fail to ever realise that it's not compulsive or obligatory but a matter of personal choice.

I remember once listening to an amazing conversation between couples (on YouTube Relationship Theory) about how they chose to not have kids and why they thought so (I don't think their reasoning matters here) and as if the sky fell on my consciousness that I realised that I never never never, not even in my wildest dreams ever thought of thinking that having kids is actually a choice that a couple can make. I always thought that may be yeah the timing of their arrival is something that people could decide, when they're prepared to become parents but not that they can choose not to be one.

And I failed myself badly when I tried to reason why couldn't it be a choice to not have kids. It's not something that is necessary yet it's a great responsibility all together to nurture and bring up a life into the world and give them the values that could help not just the human being but the entire universe for people touch each other's lives and affect each other at so many levels.

I felt miserable and terrible and yet amazed all at the same time. It was as if a new thought was given to me, new way of looking at the world. It was definitely the shortcoming of my thoughts that I failed to realise that due to the surrounding I lived in and people I am accompanied by and the society in large which has so many obligations place on others involving the AGE at which people should get married if not then their whole life is getting wasted, and once the person is married the peer societal pressure of having the first kid and then after one the next is still on... So basically we live in a society where others decide not just about the career that one should be in to be called as successful but also the age at which one should get married (no matter what and hell to whom, just forget about the happiness, caste is all that matters) and then the years within which one should have the kids after their marriage and whether or not and when should one have their next child (not to mention the expectation of having a male child for everyone, and who shall they marry in future? Well this topic can go for having another blog post altogether, so let's skip this!)

Having seen people (especially females) who face difficulty in conceiving and their all life long struggle of getting themselves treatments for the same including years of medication followed by sometimes getting their body operated I felt terrible. There are people who see their lives as incomplete and unfulfilled without having any children of their own. I wonder is it actually that they really want it or just the another way of seeking validation and meeting up others expectations (family and society) that they try so hard and their whole life comes to a standstill and all that they ever dream and desire of having is a child. Not that I'm opposed to accepting that one could place their happiness in being parent. But does it means so much that it could be made struggle of the rest of whole life?

As the role of females have drastically changed in today's modern era raising kids and giving them essential time is a great struggle. Trying to feel fulfilled in our life but not being able to justify the role and accept the complete responsibility is it acceptable? Just for others fulfillment ending up making our life a big struggle for the rest of the life is it happiness?

I remember old days when woman who couldn't conceive were considered as waste and cursed and treated ill by the families. Instances also included man marrying other woman.(including the desire to have son, if couldn't be provided by a wife) It's linked with legacy. But we fail to realise what great deeds have we done to ever think of leaving behind our legacy after us in this world that the world will fall apart if it cannot happen or if people really think that their legacy is so much important then what values so they offer to their next generation that could change the course of the world in coming years?

No, all we ever think is that's how it is and so is how we SHOULD (less of we WANT) live life.

Lastly, to feel fulfilled in a relationship with our partner is it so important for a couple to have  kid/s then isn't their love dependable on the happening or non happening of an event? Could it be really termed as fulfilled relationship between the two? And when two cannot support and stand for each other at times of need why should one ever be with that kind of a person?

Have you ever thought of it?

Women

A woman is like a water!
She is flexible enough to take the shape you want to shape in.
She is adaptable enough to take the color you want to color in.
She is soft at times and she can be harsh with its forces.
She has her own flow for her life.
She gives life to many.
She can even be harmful at times if in excess... (LOL! If you know what I mean? ;-))
She cannot be trapped and stopped with the force.
She is pure and beautiful when flows in her direction where she intends to go!
Without a women in your life in any form, your life is incomplete, isn't it? :-)

Missing someone...

Why is it that to gain something you always have to sacrifice something in it's place!?
Why doesn't happiness come in a separate package and not in combination with sorrows...?
Why people whom you love are bound to go away from you, though sometimes for a while but still this while seems longer enough! Theory of relativity... Indeed...
But still, missing someone is worst! Not a useful thing into itself. Coz most of the time they doesn't even know that somebody's missing them so badly. Though same goes when we are being missed, we never know who is missing us and at what intensity?!
May be this is how it is ment to be... You miss someone, someone miss you... Sometimes you meet sometimes you never, but the feelings remains same forever...

I was also an innocent child someday!?

There is a small baby girl in front of me, sometimes crying, sometimes smiling, sometimes sleeping, sometimes playing, sometimes confidently looking at everyone, sometimes cautious, sometimes dancing, sometimes stationary, sometimes adorable, sometimes stubborn... The baby is enjoying herself, that's coz she has her mother standing besides her at all times, giving her full attention of hers, to her her daughter is the centre of attraction, her world is around her only!
Looking at this, all I felt is, even I was a baby years ago and even my mother would have taken all sort of efforts to carry me, to nurture me, to make me happy she too have sacrificed so many things, to my obstinate behaviour she would have handled it all with patience and care!
Babies are so innocent when they're small, not concerned about who the person sitting next to them in the public place is but they only know who takes care of them and that is their MOTHER and when this known person is near them, they are care free and comfortable! :)
How innocent they are when they know nothing much of this world but only that now they belong to this new world, which might be old to their souls but for their new beginning it's altogether a new world...
I wish I would have remembered all childhood memories...

26 and SINGLE!!!!! o_O

Your parents’ 30th wedding anniversary. Shouldn’t that be a wonderful occasion to get together and have a wonderful time? Family, friends, celebrations and so on. Unfortunately, when you’re the 26-year-old single daughter who has moved to the city to have one of those fancy careers (being at the beck and call of the associates of a law firm, not so fancy, really, but it’ll be worth it in five years), going home for a family gathering gives you nightmares.

The nightmares, quite literally, start about a week before your flight is scheduled. Till then, there’s the uneasy feeling as you duck your aunts’ calls and make excuses that range from the plausible to the outrageous when your mum calls and asks why you’ve been ducking the calls. As the day of doom approaches, though, you start waking up in cold sweat having dreamt of a gaggle of aunts closing in on you intoning ‘You must get married, you must have babies, marry, marry, BABIES!’ by which time you mercifully open your eyes. You start hoping for airline strikes. You start hoping that your leave will get cancelled – what a difference from the last trip with friends to Goa, when you had fingers crossed that nothing would go wrong!

Unfortunately, there is no escape from your fate, and there’s no escape from family gatherings unless you want to deeply hurt your parents. It’s not their fault that their sisters, sisters-in-law and cousins have babies – not their own, but your hypothetical babies – on their brains, is it? So the day of the flight home dawns, and you wish you could gird your loins much as gladiators did by the time you land.

The first few minutes are wonderful. Your parents have nagged your brother-in-law into picking you up. Once you get home, you’ve got your adorable two-year-old niece all over you, and you get to be the best aunt of the year by giving her a few choice gifts, a couple not to be shown to her parents until she was done with them – sugar high, yes! As you hug her, you vow to yourself that you will be a better, less scary aunt to her than any of… Oh dear. There comes the gaggle. Loin-girding time.

“Beta, you’re home! How long it has been!”

“How is your job going? That’s a nice dress you’re wearing, but it’s a bit short, did you run out of material?” Strike one.

“I guess you’re going to be all high-power lawyer and everything, eh? God help your husband if you argue like that at home as well!” Strike two.

“You look so thin, you know, you should put on some weight, you will look nicer in that saree once you do. Then we’ll find a nice boy for you.” Strike three and you clench your fist… Aunt number three will never know how lucky she is that your sister came and pulled you into a hug before your fist made resounding contact with her face.

So now to give your sister her belated birthday gift – a bottle of her favourite vodka, snagged from duty free the last time a friend went abroad. Still annoyed, you don’t think of sneaking off into your room before you give it to her. In a gesture of rather pointless defiance that will inevitably give them enough to gossip about for a week, you pull it out from your bag right in front of them. Cue collective gasp.

“I found a really nice duty-free store where I picked up this, a couple of bottles of nice wine and a really nice Jack Daniels for myself, you know I love a good whiskey,” you lie shamelessly. Cue second gasp, this one actually loud enough to bring your mum from the kitchen. She shakes her head sternly, as she always does when she knows you’re about to blow your top and let it rip at one of your aunts, but she welcomes you home with a hearty hug and sends you off to the living room where all the men are enjoying their pre-dinner Cognac.

It was only three in the afternoon, so perhaps it should be called pre-pre-dinner Cognac. Being the youngest girl in the family has its good points – everybody over 35 might be on your case to start acting like a ‘proper woman’, but you’ll always be daddy’s little girl. You’re always assured a wonderful welcome from him, so you go and grab him in a giant bear hug before he can even get up. The affection is returned with great enthusiasm. You give him your gift, too – brandy glasses and a set of whiskey stones. Of course you have to open it then and there, and then of course you have to inaugurate them. Oh boy – uncomfortable looks from all the uncles. But thankfully, your dad is fairly oblivious to them as you pour yourself one and make yourself comfortable beside your dad, all ready to join in the conversation about international politics. The uncles are beginning to shift in their seats resignedly.

Half an hour later, your mum comes into the living room as you’re holding forth about your particularly strong opinions about imperialism, capitalism and the US being the real terrorists of the world, what with invading countries for their resources and attacking people with drones. Your mum listens, then sits by your side and squeezes your hand. You look up to see that it’s not the ‘don’t argue’ look. It’s the ‘proud of you, baby’ look. Later, after dinner, as you help your mum wash up, she tells you that she’s proud of you for confounding expectations. You smile – the aunts and uncles and the rest of the world would just have to deal with your choices. They didn’t have a choice about that.

3 down, 6 months more to go! :-)

Soon there will be new member coming to my family. I'm on top of the world even now after 3 months, as I was when the news came out and may be I'll be on top forever. I love babies and I had played and loved babies in my neighbours, of relatives, etc till now but now I'll be real Bua (aunt) soon. I'll have baby in our house for full time to play with me, with whom I'll spend as much time I would want, to whom I'll love unconditionally!
Wow! The thought itself make me feel so thrilled and happy that I can't imagine in reality how happy I'll be. OMG! :-)
But as always life tests your patience at each stage of it and so it is even now. Just can't wait for 6 more months but I have to, I know, no option! But I also know, Sabr ka fal mitha hota hai! :-)

Till then we have many issues to tackle one of is NAME! Yeah... There had been already fight going on between everyone as to who will give name to the new member? In this fight no one is favouring other, no one is ready to give away easily, no one is ready to sacrifice. Everyone feels that they have right being uncle, aunt, grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, etc etc... of the yet to born.
I tell you it's not going to be easy to win, I'm too a strong contender to this fight. And with this the World War 3 has begun! :-P

Driving passion

A week ago after attending the wedding of Sara's sister, I headed back to home but this travelling experience was different than a usual one for I was travelling via car, no not because it was a Volkswagen car (okay okay a bit because it was a VOLKSWAGEN!) but more than that because it was being driven by my friend Amu! I was mesmerized, amazed, transfixed, spell-bound and what not!? Amu took her heals off and pressing the accelerator and handling gear and steering wheel she drove the car with full confidence. My eyes were on her and hers on the road but sometimes on me too, for no offense I was caught spying on her driving, though I wasn't doing that intentionally but coz I was impressed! Phew! I explained it and relived we were. She was confident and controlled driver. I hope it was not because her Dad was seated next to her and her Mom behind her Dad!? :-P But I loved the confidence of her parents on her and to let her do what she desires.
There were people trying to break her cool by not allowing her to overtake from their right and she believed in following rules she learnt while learning driving and didn't overtook wrongly by their left. I'm proud of you Amu, coz you can drive a four wheeler, a bike, follow rules and make me always laugh by your bindas doings! :-P
:-D

Up till now my aim was to learn driving scooty but now it's also to learn driving a four wheeler! Oh how I wished I had a vehicle! :-|

The wedding day

Today was the wedding day of Sara's sister. It was my first South Indian wedding that I attended. Everyone around me looked draped in silk and dripped in Gold! I was mesmerized by the gold everyone wore. Though in my traditions too gold get preference but not this much. I've heard about it in past but experienced today. Had attended wedding from start and saw all the rituals. It was bit common but few things were new. It was shorter with regards to ceremony of wedding, ours last for 2-3hrs at least. I loved the look of the bride. It was awesome. But brides sister was too well dressed. Finally she agreed to wear the jewellery I suggested. Sara, you really looked Cinderella! ;-)
While everyone, all friends of our group, came straightening their hairs while are bit curly, Sara took efforts to curl her straight hairs and I didn't do anything and got Sara's company for my curly ones. But next time I wanna experiment with straight ones, everyone looked awesome! All my sweet babes, you all looked gorgeous! :-)

I left before the bidai, it wasn't planned so but happened like that and I think if not always but sometimes what happens happens for good for I would surely not have controlled my emotions looking everyone get emotional at that moment.
I just hate this one fact the most. Why should girls leave everyone and everything and go forever for someone? Everyone looks so happy every since the wedding gets fixed till it is done but at the end remains the emptiness everywhere... :-(
There is no solution to this cliché!

Winter walk

For safety reasons, like every other woman I'm too bound to do things that are considered safe by myself and my parents. It involves thousands of things to be considered coz no one want to take risk of lifetime regret. Hence my willingness of going on a morning walk was at halt since I didn't had any company coz my company was on vacation post exams. Finally when she returned we planned the timing and thankfully our parents agreed to let us go out early in the morning out in each others company. Gathering too much crowd I don't like hence I didn't talk about it to anyone else but Sara! We were excited that one of the to-do-list particular will get marked as done yesterday. Just after exams I was engaged in the process of gathering accessories of comfortable morning walk. I bought track suit, shoes I had, socks and now since it's winter, my favourite season, I had jacket too with me! Everything was set and I set the alarm of 6am for I had to left at 6.30am and we were to meet at common point at 6.45am! I was excited and curious too. After sleeping for late till at least 8am I was a bit worried about getting up at 6am again! Though like all my lazy friends I'm not one who can't get otta bed early, in fact I'm a morning person and I love getting up early and doing something energetic, but there should be some work only then I find it reasonable to sacrifice sleep. Where as my friends are too lazy and not at all morning person. I also feared whether she'll wake up on time or I'll be left waiting at home, in ready to leave condition, for her call assuring that we are going. Since it's been long I've not slept early coz I am use to sleeping at around 1-2am after reading book. I was not sleepy and decided to read my current novel. Finally at 1am I forced upon to sleep so that I can wake up as I was equally worried to not leave my friend in that waiting condition. Even before alarm could ring I got up thrice and watched time. It's still time to wake up, I said to my worried brain and ordered to sleep till alarm rings! Alarm rang and I got up at a stroke. It was cold. Finally winter has knocked in Mumbai! Nothing is more happy moment than enjoying cool breeze of winter early in the morning. I got ready and messaged for assurance. I got a call back from Sara who sounded just-otta-bed like but thankfully I was wrong and she was to left from her home. I waved good-bye to Mom and left too. We met at discussed point of meet and went to the road where I knew people in large amount come for walk.
Cool breeze was entering into my system making me chill! For a start we walked for half an hour or so and had our genuine talk while walking. We noticed the surrounding, different types of people who come. It was inspiring to watch so many people caring about their health to wake up early and take effort to live life in a healthy way. There were many old age people too. I loved the scene. The walk was more enjoyable than I had thought. It was very thrilling from inside. Finally, I made one of my dream come true today that too safely.

On return journey, there was one seller selling oranges looking at which my dear friend was too tempted to eat them. I had money thankfully and I helped her in fulfilling her small wish against her help of fulfilling my big wish.
Thanks Sara, again, I know! :-P

Tomorrow morning it will be day-2 hoping to pick up pace and walk for more kms too!

Oh winter, I love you! ;-)
I wished if you could last forever! :-)

Flaunting and flattering doesn't work always :-P

Remembered old days, came across a pic of mine and one of friend of GMCS, and the story behind it. I couldn't stop laughing after looking at that pic. :-D
It was traditional day and all the boys came dressed in Sherwani/Kurta sorts and girls in Saree!
It was a great struggle to wear Saree and travel in trains and auto, walk and climb stairs! But I succeeded along with all others! ;-)
During lunch break everyone was having photo session. GMCS was more of photo sessions and less of communication skills! ;-)
There was one boy in the class who was very mischievous, in fact the most mischievous person I've even see of 20's age group! :-P He was asking each and every girl for a personal pic with him and not the usual group pictures. After every click he seemed to be flaunting that no girl can deny me ever in front of his friends. I found it fishy! I was noticing him saying that to his friends. Soon my turn came to bring him down to earth from the sky where he was flying with his pride of being able to impress girls! ;-)
He came near me and I said, NO!
His jaws fell to earth and I just couldn't stop laughing looking him like that! He pretended to look sad, tried to flatter me but I was firm. At the end of the day after making him realise that he isn't hero, finally I called him and we got pic clicked together.
It was FUN!
I never did that to anyone but then there is always first, more so if anyone flaunt the joy of bringing him back to reality is awesome! ;-)
:-D

Moov day...

When Mom falls ill I'm the person incharge of things to be done at home. I'm not a person who don't know address of the kitchen, like few! But of course being involved in a course involving hard core time dedication to studies I don't know address of most of things in kitchen. I had to run between bedroom, where mom was resting, and kitchen to know what I should get from where. If I found mom in sleep I preferred search method. Opened almost all containers and found out my ingredients. It was enjoyable. Making food is an ART I believe. Thankfully my artistic work is liked by everyone and at the end of the day it inspires and satisfies you and becomes driving force to work next time.
Washing dishes and clothes is hard core laboured job. But I am happy that I can do everything with perfection though with slow speed due to lack of practice but that's okay. If I don't have studies at an opportunity cost I never mind giving my helping hand at household chores. Being woman I always know the importance of having knowledge of the basics of stuffs at least if not everything then! For men, things get dealt with somehow whether the leading lady is ill or not it doesn't affect them at all until they don't have any other lady to substitute temporarily. Lucky they are! May be or may be not! I always prefer being independent. I feel happy at the end of the day where I had done all my work on my own. During exams I had to depend for many things to save time but now I am back with the onus of doing my work on own and if possible help in general work too.
No work is small.
I believe it.

Everything said and done...
Lack of practice had given me back pain for doing all jobs. It's really a tough task but it's a nice way of workout! ;-)
Perception matters... B-)

looking at other side of the coin...

Other day, one of my friend bluntly ended up asking me, When I'm getting married? After pakaofying for half an hour that I'm already married finally I warned not to ask such silly questions. The day it'll happen I'll let everyone know about it surely.
Phew! This is problem of this age group. After completing studies, almost all parents want their kids to get settled. I can't even imagine into being in that circumstance! :-\
On same day evening I met another friend. After talking for a while she told me that she's upset with her parents coz they want her to think about her marriage now, that they have started looking for a groom for her. I was obviously surprised but then I ended up surprising myself by suggesting her to be positive about it. I asked her to think over it calmly rather than just reacting about it. After all our parents want us to be happy that's it. If we can make them understand with our valid reasons as to why we don't want any commitment then fine but if they too have reasons for us to act as per their will then that is not always bad too. I just wanted her to be positive about it. I didn't wanted her to have an argument or fight over it with her parents.
Later I was wondering if I were honest to her?!
I didn't acted theoretically but I just asked her to be positive to whatever comes in life. Sometimes what we perceive a particular thing to be it's not necessary that it actually will be like that. It may be good as well. It's just that we fear about it.

Though it's difficult to judge but life have many stages and one of it is marriage. We must decide when we want that stage to come but not necessary that we always resist it. I've seen many who say, I don't wanna marry ever and all but in the end the truth is this world won't let you live peacefully until you do and nor is it mostly possible to as well to be single forever.
May be as one of my BFF says, enjoy every stage and relation of life it brings new experience. So that's true.

But we must be happy and sure about it!

Demand or Respect?

To my friend who messaged me that it's respect for girls on Ramnavmi and not demand,

Jay, had it been respect it would not have been momentary but forever, isn't it?

Of course while claiming that I am not considering those people who love their daughter or who don't mind having a daughter or only daughters in their family but to those who don't ever will that they have daughter in their family and yet try to give respect on these occasions!

Once I've heard this saying that, everyone want a freedom fighter or a revolutionary person to be born in their neighbours who can bring changes in the society but no one want that person to be born in as his own child!
It sounds quite similar to me in this regard too that everyone want girl but not as their daughter, but as daughter-in-law of their son...
If there would be no girl being born whom will your son get married to then? (except he have other preferences! :-P sorry for diverting! :-D) For that people want girl to be born at others home!
Having said that I am one of those lucky girls whose parents have always given her equal rights and love as to their sons. In fact sometimes more I would say coz I've felt that! When I were to born my parents willed that they have a baby girl, my Mom even had mannats like people have for a boy and I was born to them willingly and not as a life given forcefully by God!
Hence I know the difference well enough between demand and respect!

PS: 1. It was nice to hear from you Jay, it's been long since you've said anything about my blog posts! I thought you might be busy with your schedule that lost track of it! :-P
And to my friend Sara, who thinks she's only creature on this earth reading my gibberish talks, there are others too! :-P
Ha ha ha... :-D

2. Feminist, if someone would tag me I won't deny it!

One day demand!

I was studying  and suddenly there was knock on the main door, everyone was busy doing something so I opened it. There was one girl of around 16-17yr old, an unknown, standing in front of me. I gave her full I-don't-know-you expressions and also what-do-you-want? one too!
She very lamely asked, "is there any small girl at your house?"
I understood the purpose and humbly said, "NO" until she could prefer me there was no girl at our house! ;-) :-P
She asked if I know any and I told her about few at my complex.

Shutting the door back, I wondered...

At least on one day in India there is demand for girls...

On Ramnavmi mostly people invite little girls for lunch or dinner. They're being considered as avatar of goddess Durga.

How funny. Are girls avatar of Goddess Durga only one day?

October 12, 2013

11th Oct, International day of girl child!

Merely observing Day of the Girl Child isn’t enough!
She deserves to live on a planet where she is treated like a full-fledged human being — not as a plaything...

I am generally not a big fan of United Nations publicity campaigns. Just take the UN’s habit of setting aside particular “international observance days” as a way of highlighting various worthy causes. What, for example, are we supposed to make of gimmicks like World Poetry Day or the International Day of Happiness?

One of the problems with such campaigns is that they tend to preach a kind of ecumenical optimism that hovers high above the complexity of real-world politics. Who could possibly oppose poetry or happiness? Even Syrian President Bashar Al Assad would proclaim himself fully in favour. So what is the point, then?
Cynical though I am, I have to confess that one of those days has started me thinking. October 11 marks the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child. Forget the awkwardly tautological title: The event itself offers an occasion to consider some of the specific problems faced by girls around the world. That seems like a potentially constructive provocation — perhaps because I cannot help thinking about my own nine-year-old daughter and the challenges she is likely to face precisely because she is a girl.
She was lucky enough, of course, to be born in one of the world’s wealthiest and most stable societies, which makes it less likely that she will have to confront some of the uglier injustices that plague girls in other parts of the world. But of course, not even the US is immune to threats of sexualised violence or economic discrimination. So let us simplify matters. Let us just assume that my daughter is a global citizen — along with the world’s other 900 million girls aged 15 or under. What kind of life does she have a right to expect?

First and foremost, she deserves to live in a free society where her individual human rights are respected, regardless of gender. Political systems aren’t necessarily the best guide to this. It is great that Rwanda has equal numbers of men and women in parliament, for example, but I wonder if that really means much in a country where the president has the final say in everything. There are plenty of benign despots in the world who claim to promote women’s rights by pledging equal opportunity, but I wonder how far such pledges can be taken seriously when those women can be thrown into jail at a moment’s notice for making critical remarks about their leaders.

Democracy is certainly preferable to any other form of government — though not even the existence of democratic institutions automatically guarantees proper respect for the rights of girls. Just look at India, where village girls are routinely pulled out of school, whether they like it or not, and forced to become child brides at appallingly young ages. One Indian activist recently made an observation that certainly holds true for too many other parts of the world: “Girls are considered second-class citizens. They carry your bag to school for you. They get your dinner. The sexist attitude is ingrained in the way one is brought up here. When I had my second child, and she happened to be a girl, my in-laws, who are very well-educated people, were not very happy about it.”

But at least Indians can openly discuss the shortcomings of traditional ways, which facilitates evolution and change. I’m not sure we can say the same about, say, Saudi Arabia.

And while we are on the subject of girl brides: No, I don’t want to see my daughter married off in early adolescence to someone who has essentially offered me the highest price. I want her to be able to choose her own spouse and I want her — and no one else — to choose the moment when the time is right for that.

Needless to say, long-accepted traditions in many countries weigh heavily against doing away with child marriage. The UN is to be applauded for drawing attention to the broader social ills caused by the practice. (To name but one, marrying off girls at early ages almost always means that their educations are cut short.) Last year, UN agencies used the International Day of the Girl Child to stage a global campaign focusing on the need to do away with child marriage. I would like to see them do more.

What else? Well, my daughter deserves to have the same educational opportunities as her male counterparts. Girls should not be shunted off into vocational training aimed at turning them into better housekeepers. They should have access to all the subjects that boys are allowed to study — including math and science, all too often viewed as “inappropriate” subjects for girls. If my daughter finds that she has a knack for engineering, why not?
Sadly, there are many societies that still hew to the notion that science, technology, and mathematics (STEM) are the natural province of men.
Educational systems built on such preconceptions will tend to push female students in corresponding directions. (In China, for example, women account for only about a third of the workforce in STEM-related professions.)
Speaking of school: My daughter deserves the chance to participate in sports as she sees fit. There’s nothing in the Bible, the Quran or Buddhist scripture that should prohibit her from playing football, baseball or chess. (And yet this is still a matter of considerable controversy in some countries. I hope that the growing prominence of women athletes is starting to wear down some of those pathetic prejudices.)
Next: There should be no coercive exploitation of my daughter’s labour. There is no justification for slavery in the modern world. Yet this, too, is still far from a given. All too often, girls are regarded as chattel, property that can be bought or sold. This is unacceptable. Human beings, and especially children, cannot be owned. Unfortunately, it is often girls who have the least power to resist such pressures, both from inside and outside their families. It is only right to push for greater protections wherever possible.

Now, I realise that it is customary in some places for children to support their families with their own work, sometimes from very early ages. This is especially true in agrarian societies, where having more children is sometimes a strategy for ensuring a bigger labour force and thus greater prosperity for the family as a whole. So making things better for children, and especially girls, will require a wholesale change in economic conditions — not the kind of thing that happens overnight. Yet, it’s important to keep the right goal in view: Wherever possible, children should be learning, not working.

And then there is the most uncomfortable topic of all: Rape. Girls everywhere deserve to be protected from sexualised violence in all its forms. You would think this would go without saying. But recent events show us that there are still too many men in the world who think that coercing women into sex is perfectly fine. The notorious Delhi gang rape case has helped dramatise the dimensions of the problem. (Personally, I think I have been just as shocked by what that scandal tells us about attitudes towards rape within the Indian elite as by the crime itself.)

The UN is also to be applauded for taking on this topic. The organisation recently conducted a study (the results of which were published in the British medical journal The Lancet) that found that one-quarter of 10,000 men interviewed in six Asia-Pacific countries had forced women to have sex with them. Worse, half of the men who confessed to having committed rape had done so as adolescents — strongly suggesting that this is a horror that affects girls as much as it does women.

This is not the kind of world I want my daughter to grow up in. She deserves to live on a planet where people treat her and other girls like her as full-fledged human beings, not as playthings or economic assets. Honouring their promise and potential will often require huge changes in established institutions and traditional ways of doing things.
I am glad that the UN has the gumption to take on this controversial subject by drawing attention to the problems specifically facing girls. I know it will be hard to change, but we have to try. Anything else is a betrayal.

Dandiya-Raas = Raas-leela

Listening to radio came across a show. The RJ was saying something that shocked me somehow! "Dear friends today we're going to show you real picture of few people and what they do during Dandiya nights. We are today associated with one of the detective along with whom we're going to go on an investigation. First lets have talk with the detective."
The detective,"During Navratri our business is at boom always! Ha ha ha... ...today I've a case in hand where the husband is otta town for some official work but he is doubtful about his wife and want me to follow her and investigate into what she do, where she goes, whom she meets, etc, etc..."
RJ,"Friends today we're going to accompany Mr. Detective on his mission to give you true picture of everything live! Are you ready to face reality?! Ha ha ha... C'mon lets go..."
They followed the car in which the lady whom the husband suspects is driving. She first goes to parlor, get ready... They investigate but there were only females in the parlor. No suspect till now. Later she returns home... They investigate but there was no one else then the wife herself... She gets ready and move otta house... In the car she's alone... They followed her... She enters a parking lot near the Dandiya show. They wait for her to come... waits... waits more... Finally decide to head themselves into the parking... There was someone in the car this time... They knock on the glass... A male voice turns up asking, who the hell it is????!!!!

It's a true story!
In fact last year too I heard in news about Dandiya was, the correspondent was asking a doctor about her experience and her answer was, the cases of abortions during Navratri are more than 70% than during the year we would notice!

I was shocked then... I was shocked today... But I'm sure I'll be not shocked in future... Because I now know the reality...

I've many times posted about mens' misbehavior but this one coming up coz I'm not biased to any sex being a woman but to know the true picture of everyone around. I never assumed nor believed any one race to be bad and another innocent...
They all are same...
If not all men are devil then not all women are devi too!

Harsh reality...

No nonsense acceptable! :-|

One day when our maid, who is always very much in hurry and busy, who always run away even without informing that her work is done but when we find her missing we have to conclude her gone, came for work Mom could catch hold of her and asked if she would like to have TEA coz to our previous maid we would give tea and breakfast. Her reply was, today I'm getting late! And she went.

Next day Mom prepared it ready by the time she completed her work so that her time is saved and that day her reply was, time pass mat karo na!
And Mom was stunned o_O and was like, ja fir! :-/

All of us others who noticed the incidence were ROFL! :-D

From next day whenever our maid comes one of us ask her for tea and another answers time pass mat karo!
And we all ROFL! :-D

Life of all working people is really busy no doubt but few are very serious about it like our dear maid! :-)

Fasting means improving yourself in more better ways!

I always fast for whole 9days during Navratri and also many fasts goes on during a year with different mythological significances but I also do them for some extra reasons.
The toughest I've done is 9days without a pinch of salt consumption, of course your can't eat any serial but we have this fasting salt that we mostly use in fast related food and can consume, it is considered so. But one I did was without any form of salt consumption. It was challenging but equally exciting. I like to challenge myself. I successfully did that.
Also I've done no water for almost 30hrs, including no food too. I consume water very excessively so for a person like me who after waking up within 2 hours consumer at least a litre of water and during whole day drinks approx. 9-10 litres it was challenging too. I enjoyed it. It was exhausting but still surviving it was thrilling and gave me confidence that I'm not slave of anything.

This time I'm doing only with fast salt. Exam time so to concentrate you need to be healthy.

I have different ideology for doing any fast.
May it be Teej and Nirjala ekadashi vrat, fasting even without a drop of water or normal fasts without food that we generally eat.

I fast coz I want to give myself a tolerance test. Hunger is something which many people can't control. Being human being we many times loose control on ourselves may it be on our emotions or any other thing. There should be self discipline into everyone imbibed by own will. We should know how to control ourselves. We only try controlling people, things and circumstances around us but not try any type of control on our own selves.
Fast gives you strength to control your needs and greeds. It let one be calm, composed and patient. It brings awareness and presence of mind so that you remember whole day that you don't have to munch on to anything. Many times I forget that it's my fast and at morning after brush I have tendency to search for munching something but sometimes all of sudden even before my hands could reach to any food my brain automatically reminds me that today is your fast and I stop there. It even increases memory, you may say.
It gives me strong will power. No matter how much tasty and favourite food is being made at home and being served to others or even I have to serve them at times or cook for them but I can still eat just fruits or salad and not even once in my mind a thought would come regretting that today is my fast and I can't eat it or my mouth would water. Coz fasting too is my decision so I stick to my decision happily. Coz today is definitely not last day of my life nor is it that I've never ate my favourite food ever. So I'm positive that today I can eat fruits and be happy into it and be hopeful that someday I'll get to eat that too.
I always believe in, Eat to live not live to eat!

Hence I love fasting coz its gives me patience, challenge, self control, self discipline, strong will power, builds my inner strength of not being greedy for anything material, provides inner satisfaction in being happy with what I've and I can, and many more things! :)

PS: For girls it also helps in losing weight! ;) :P
